Our Lady of Guadalupe
Feast Day December 12
Patron of the Americas, Children, and Parents
Our Lady
of Guadalupe brings the child Jesus, the Light of the World, to us in her womb.
She builds our expectant faith that waits for His second coming, by joining it
with her own. With such an intercessor, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of
Sorrows--whatever image of Mary you keep in your heart, how can we, MMG
members, not believe that, "With God, nothing is impossible!" |
Who is Our Lady of Guadalupe?
The
Blessed Mother appeared to Juan Diego in Mexico during the time of the
Protestant Reformation. She left her image on his tilma which hangs in
the Shrine church today. While Europe was losing one million
Catholics, Our Lady brought 9 million new converts to Catholicism in the New
World.

Our Lady of Guadalupe
Honored by Popes
Twenty five popes have officially
honored Our Lady of Guadalupe
.
John Paul II visited her Sanctuary four times. In 1999, in his homily during
Mass at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, he declared December 12th a
Liturgical Holy Day for the whole continent.
The Pope also entrusted the cause of life to her loving protection, and
placed under her motherly care the innocent lives of children, especially
the
unborn
.
Let us also ask her protection for the
lives of our prodigal children and loved ones.

The Running of the
Rose
This was
submitted, in October,
by Joyce, whose research helps build these pages of the Saintly Inspirations
section
A couple of weeks ago,
St. Joseph [parish in Shawnee, KS] hosted the “running of the rose.” This
was something I had not heard about before (and I have been a Catholic a
very long time). There were three silver roses honoring our Lady of
Guadalupe made by Mexican jewelers from fine silver. The three roses travel
3 routes from Canada to Mexico. All three roses meet at the same time in
Texas to travel over the International Bridge into Mexico. This practice
started in the 1960’s by the squires (men too young to be Knights of
Columbus) to encourage devotion to the Patroness of the Americas.
Personally, I think this is a very good time to call upon her for help. I
thought you might want to include the
Running of the Rose website
for Our Lady of Guadalupe’s feast day in the December Saints web pages. |
